Abstract:

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a common ocular surface disease , characterized by terminal duct obstruction and (or) quality or quantity changes in the glandular secretion. The corresponding change of lipid composition results in the decline of tear flim stability and the increase of tear evaporation, which leads to dry eye. At this point, the causes of MGD remain unknown.Symptomatic therapy is commonly used clinical thrapeutic measures. In this article we mainly summarized the change of lipid and the development of diagnosis and treatment of MGD at home and abroad.(Int Rev Ophthalmol, 2016, 40: 426-431)
